Addo Elephant National Park in Southern Africa

Addo Elephant National Park

The dense Eastern Cape bushveld is home to the Addo Elephnant National. Addo Elephant National Park is a safe-haven where elephants roam free in peace. This peaceful elephant sanctuary started it's routes with the last eleven elephants situated in the area. Today the park is home to well over 450 elephants. Other magnificent species sharing this great landscape with the elephants include the great Cape buffalo, black rhino, a huge variety of antelope and the unique flightless dung beetle. Day sightings of animals are frequent and an illuminated waterhole provides excellent nighttime game viewing.

Addo Elephant National has evolved from its original 6 852ha to its present 80 000ha. Plans are in place to expand the conservation estate of the park to approximately 400 000ha.

The influence of the nearby Indian Ocean contributes to a generous amount of rainfall distributed evenly throughout the year transforming the Addo Elephant National Park into a vivid green tapestry landscape. The enjoyable winter season rarely exceeds the mid-twenty temperatures (degrees Celsius). Nights can be cold. During the summer (Nov-Mar) temperatures can measure up to 35 degree Celsius.
