Samango Monkey (Samango-aap)

Cercopithecus mites

Samango monkeys are rarely found on the ground and prefer wooded areas. Its head, shoulders and legs are black with a dark reddish brown back. Its face is also brown with whitish facial hair and beard.

Samango monkeys communicate with a wide range of sounds with their other troop members. Like the Chacma baboon they are most often found in troops of approximately 30 members.

The female monkeys give birth to only 1 baby per year during the summer months.
