Local Soccer Teams

Kaizer Chiefs FC

Kaizer Chiefs FC was found in 1970, in Soweto South Africa by Kaizer Motaung who made his name in the United States when the American league was drawing such superstars as Pele, Johan Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer.
The team is also known as Amakhosi, which means chiefs or lords in Zulu.
Since their formation they, together with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, have conquered the local soccer scene and the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).
They have a neighbouring rivalry with a fellow Soweto team, the Orlando Pirates. Their founder, Kaizer Motaung played for them earlier in his career.
The Keizer Chiefs are one of South Africa's most successful teams, and they play their home games at either FNB Stadium or Ellis Park Stadium.

 Orlando Pirates

The Orlando Pirates was formed in 1937, in Soweto, Johannesburg. This makes them the oldest football club in South Africa. The Orlando Pirates has supporters far across South African borders. They are also known as the 'Buccaneers' and The Happy People'.
They have won the SA's Premier Soccer League twice since its launch in 1997, and they are the only South African team so far to have won Africa's premier club competition, the Champions League. They achieved this in 1995.
The Orlando Pirates, as with The Kaizer Chiefs not disadvantaged playing away from home, as their supporters stretch all across South Africa and beyond.
Because of the brutal traditional rivalry between Pirates and Chiefs, makes a Soweto Derby one of the major derby matches on earth, and attracts a full house every time without doubt.
