National Rugby Team - Springbokke

The Springboks

The Springboks are South Africa's national rugby union team and are ranked number one currently, and are also the reigning Rugby World Cup champions. This is their second time winning the cup, the previous one in 1995. The Springboks, or Springbokke in Afrikaans, and also known as Amabokoboko in Zulu, compete fiercely in the annual Tri Nations competition against the New Zeeland All Blacks and the Australian Wallabies, among other competitions.

Their name "The Springboks" is derived from their emblem on their jerseys, and they are identified by their green and gold colours. The Springboks have been playing international rugby since 1891, with their first international game on 30 July 1891 against the British Isles, winning 4-0.

Currently South Africa's coach is Peter de Villiers, and the team captain is John Smit. The player with the most caps to date is Percy Montgomery, and he is also the top scorer at the moment. Montgomery is now in the top 10 most capped players list internationally. The top try scorer for the Springboks is Joost van der Westhuizen with 38 tries in his career for the Springboks.
